<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a reasonable power saving operation in a NIC part in accordance with a link state to the Ethernet (R) in system equipment provided with a NIC. <P>SOLUTION: The following power saving processes are executed in combination to a protocol processing function part and/or an encoding processing function part in a NIC part, in accordance with conditions (a link speed or the presence or absence of a link), the power saving processes corresponding to the above processing functions, respectively: (1) it is determined whether protocol processing is performed on the NIC side or on the controller side in accordance with a link state, and, if the processing is performed on the controller side, a power source to the protocol processing function part and encoding processing function part in the NIC is turned off; (2) an operational clock frequency of a CPU in the NIC, which realizes the respective functions of the protocol processing function part and encoding processing function part, is altered in accordance with the link state; and (3) switching is made, in accordance with the link state, between encoding processing by hardware and encoding processing by software in the NIC. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
