PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ghost inspection device capable of quantitatively and readily judging occurrence of ghost in an image generated by a liquid crystal display device, and a method for inspecting a ghost. SOLUTION: This ghost inspection device 9 is equipped with a luminance sensor 10 and a CPU 11. The luminance sensor 10 is adapted to measure luminance values of a single inspection region provided in a display region 5a in the case where an image only in an intermediate tone is displayed on the whole part of the display region 5a, in the case where an image in only the darkest gradation is displayed, and in the case where a stripe image having images in the intermediate tone formed of pixels with the number same as the number of phase developments and images in the darkest gradation formed of the pixels with the number same as the number of the phase developments which are alternately arranged, are displayed. The CPU 11 judges occurrence of ghost depending on a ratio between a value calculated based on the luminance values in the case where the image in only the intermediate tone is displayed and the image in only the darkest gradation is displayed and a value calculated based on the luminance value in the case where the stripe image is displayed.
