PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotating electric machine capable of attaining a wide variable range of output characteristics, and improving motor efficiency and change followability. SOLUTION: This electric rotating machine M includes a stator 6, a rotor 4, and stator moving devices 11, 12 for changing relative position of the stator to the rotor in an axial line A-direction of the rotor. An armature coil 9 and a core 6a around which the armature coil 9 is wound are provided in the stator, and a magnet 5 facing the core 6a is provided in the rotor. Either surface of a pole surface 5a of the magnet or a surface 6b facing the core 6a is formed with a slant so that a mean distance at a relative portion between the pole surface and the facing surface of the core may become larger as the stator is moved in the axial direction by a stator moving device so that facing area between the pole surface 5a of the magnet and the facing surface 6b of the core facing the pole surface may become small.
