PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crystal oscillator which is not influenced by an external environment but has a stable oscillation characteristic. SOLUTION: In the crystal oscillator, an integrated circuit element combining an oscillation circuit is mounted on the right main surface of an insulating substrate in a recessed first container encircling a first space part provided on an insulating substrate right main surface; a crystal oscillating element electrically connected to the integrated circuit element through first and second connection electrode parts is contained in a recessed second container encircling a second space part formed on a first space part upper surface of the insulating substrate; the first and second containers are joined via the first and second connection electrode parts; and a cover body is mounted at an opening upper edge part of the second container and is tightly sealed. A first groove is formed along an outer surface of the first container thoroughly inside the opening upper edge part of the first container and/or a second groove of the same shape opposite to the first groove is formed on a bottom part of the second container 1 on the side of the opening upper edge part of the first container.
