PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL light emitting device which can be extended in life by suppressing light emission of an organic EL element 115 at a brightness higher than a set value. SOLUTION: The organic EL display device includes the organic EL element 115 whose brightness will become L<SB>x</SB>after x hours under the condition that the initial brightness is L<SB>0</SB>under a reference setting. The organic EL display device also includes a current timer which stores a time period in which L<SB>x</SB>becomes larger than L<SB>0</SB>, and a brightness adjusting portion 121. The brightness adjusting portion 121 adjusts the brightness of the organic EL element 115 to a setting different from the reference one so that the brightness of the organic EL element 115 become 95-105% of L<SB>0</SB>under the condition that the initial brightness is L<SB>0</SB>in the time period in which L<SB>x</SB>becomes larger than L<SB>0</SB>.
