PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for an elevator capable of conducting optimal control operation for a moderate gale time and a long cycle earthquake time by appropriately judging vibration of a building by moderate gale and vibration of the building by a long cycle earthquake. SOLUTION: The controller for the elevator is provided with a two dimensional acceleration sensor 2, mounted in the building 1 in which the elevator installed, for detecting amplitude, direction and cycle of the building 1 and a wind sensor 3, mounted in the building 1, for detecting a direction of wind near the building 1. Thus, which caused the vibration of the building 1, earthquake or moderate gale, is judged based on amplitude information, direction information and cycle information from the two dimensional acceleration sensor 2 and wind direction information from the wind sensor 3 and the control operation of the elevator is conducted based on the judgement result.
