PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion damping device capable of stably providing a desired damping effect and capable of realizing maintenance-free. SOLUTION: This motion damping device comprises a casing 11 filled with a viscous fluid and a rod 31 reciprocatingly installed in the casing 11. When the rod 31 receives a viscous resistance from the viscous fluid, it can apply a damping force to the outside. The casing 11 comprises a spline mechanism 13 for guiding the reciprocating motion of the rod 31 and a sleeve 21 for applying a damping force to the rod 31 by restricting the flow of the viscous fluid flowing in the casing 11 during the reciprocating motion of the rod 31. The sleeve 21 has a sleeve insertion hole through which the rod 31 is inserted and at least one through hole formed around the sleeve insertion hole to generate a desired damping force.
