In a method for determining motion vectors from image data for blocks or objects of an image taken from an image sequence a block B(X) or object of pixels is divided ( 33 ) in two or more groups (G<SUB>a</SUB>, G<SUB>b</SUB>) within the block B(X) or object a motion vector (D<SUB>a</SUB>, D<SUB>b</SUB>) are assigned to the block (B(X)) and applied to the pixels of the respective groups (G<SUB>a</SUB>, G<SUB>b</SUB>) within the block.
