PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce and stabilize photoelectromotive force noise, dark latent image noise and high-voltage impression history noise, in an image information recording and reading method and device for recording image information as an electrostatic latent image in an electrostatic recording medium, and for reading the recorded electrostatic latent image. SOLUTION: This method executes a dummy voltage impression for impressing a prescribed level and a prescribed polarity of voltage between an electrode of the first electrode layer 11 and an electrode of the second electrode layer 15 for a prescribed time, and pretreatment for conducting dummy reading of irradiating a photoconductive layer 14 with an erasing light, under the condition where the electrode of the first electrode layer 11 and the electrode of the second electrode layer 15 are brought to the same potential, within at least one minute before recording the image information.
