PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screw holding device which facilitates the work for releasing screw tightening operation in a tool used to manufacture a screw. SOLUTION: This screw holding device is constituted by forming a half-split female screw part which fits into a screw part of a workpiece without applying side face gripping force on the screw part on divided faces which a pair of three-dimensional workpiece chucks divided to open and close by moving in parallel are abutted on and adhere closely to, and by providing a means for sliding at least either of the workpiece chucks in the direction crossing the divided faces orthogonally and repeating opening and closing movements of the divided faces. This screw holding device is provided with: a means for chamfering and eliminating the whole screw part in at least one corner of a divided vertical cross section of the screw part or a part of the screw part by a predetermined width in parallel with a shaft in the screw part, and for sliding at least either of the workpiece chucks in the direction crossing the divided faces of the workpiece chucks orthogonally to repeat opening, closing, and moving of the divided faces; and a remover plate for letting the workpiece separate from the half-split screw part.
