It is an object to provide a digital television broadcast system and a mobile telephone that can check contents of data broadcast in a small display region and in which an operation for checking desired contents in detail is easily carried out. A character train extracted from contents data is displayed in a marquee manner in a horizontally long display state of a pictographic display region (21). In the case where the display state is switched to a vertically long display state during the display of the extracted character train, out of character trains displayed in a data broadcast display region (25), a cursor (26) is overlapped with a character train corresponding to the extracted character train displayed in the horizontally long display state at the switching time. Thus, by confirming the extracted character train displayed in a marquee manner, a user can confirm contents of data broadcast and, by switching to a vertically long display state, a character train corresponding to the extracted character train displayed in a horizontally long display state is automatically selected, so that a confirming operation of desired contents in detail is easily carried out.
