GAIN CONTROL METHOD IN OPTICAL AMPLIFIER AND OPTICAL AMPLIFIER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively materialize optical access services without requiring complicated configuration by controlling the gain of an optical amplifier using only signal light within the optical amplifier.

SOLUTION: An optical amplifier 400 installed between an optical subscriber line terminating equipment 100 and an optical subscriber line network device 300 is equipped with a downlink signal optical amplifier 401 for amplifying downlink signal light S1 and an uplink signal optical amplifier 402 for amplifying uplink signal light S2. A gain control signal C1 in the downlink signal optical amplifier 401 is controlled by a transmission gain A1 of the downlink signal light S1 before and after amplification performed by the downlink signal optical amplifier 401 and a monitor signal M1 of the uplink signal light S2.
