PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting/holding furnace control device capable of preventing solidification of a metallic material in a melting/holding furnace caused by insufficient preheating, without increasing initial setup man-hours in starting an operation. SOLUTION: This melting/holding furnace control device for controlling the melting/holding furnace 10 comprising a melting chamber 20 for melting the charged metallic material 21 by heating the same by a melting burner 22 and producing molten bath 41, an inclined portion 30 on which the produced molten bath 41 flows down, and a holding furnace 40 receiving the flowing-down molten bath 41, and heating and holding the molten bath 41 by a holding burner 42, further comprises an inclined portion temperature detector 32 detecting a temperature of the inclined portion 30 and outputting an inclined portion temperature signal, and a control portion 50 judging whether the metallic material 21 is charged or not on the basis of the inclined portion temperature signal.
