PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of applying a stress to a power transmission chain capable of securing a long durable period by providing sufficient fatigue strength and a stress application device used for the method. SOLUTION: An endless loop chain 1p is stretched between main rollers 35, 36. With an auxiliary roller 70 pressed against the outer periphery of the chain 1p, the chain 1p is endlessly rotated by the main rollers 35, 36 and the auxiliary roller 70.
