摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nucleic acid molecule encoding an enzyme, especially the enzyme originated from wheat, which is involved in starch synthesis, to produce a genetically modified plant so as to increase or decrease activity of the enzyme, and to provide a method for promoting the modification of physical and/or chemical characteristics of the starch synthesized by the plant. <P>SOLUTION: The nucleic acid molecule encoding the synthetic enzyme of soluble starch originated from wheat, the vector and the host cell containing the nucleic acid molecules, in particular the transformed plant cell and the plant regenerated from the cell, which exhibit increased or a reduced activity of the starch synthases are provided.
