<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer, print system and the like in which printing can be performed at high speed by compressing print image data in accordance with the memory of the printer. <P>SOLUTION: A print data generation apparatus which generates print data adds a parameter necessary for selecting a compression method when compressing the print data and storing them in the memory. The printer includes a predictive compression rate database 306 and the compression method of the print data is selected from the received parameter and the predictive compression rate database by a compression method selection unit 305.
