PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hardly cause the intrusion of foreign matter, bonded to a liquid ejection surface, into a liquid ejection port. SOLUTION: An inkjet printer comprises an inkjet head 2 with the ink ejection surface 3a in which a nozzle is formed, a wiper 72 for wiping the ink ejection surface 3a, and a horizontal movement mechanism which moves the wiper 72 so that the wiper 72 can be moved along the ink ejection surface 3a while abutting on the ink ejection surface 3a. The inkjet printer also comprises a purge control portion for controlling the horizontal movement mechanism so that the first wiping action of making the wiper 72 move along the ink ejection surface 3a while abutting on the ink ejection surface 3a can be performed, when the first purge operation of making ink forcedly ejected from the nozzle is performed.
