PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a laser source device capable of obtaining a desired light quantity in a shorter time, a laser source device, an image display device, a monitor and an illumination device. SOLUTION: This driving method provides for a laser source device 1 comprising a light source section 20 having a laser source 2 and a wavelength conversion element 3 for wavelength-converting a light emitted from the laser source 2 and a beam detecting device 9 for measuring the beam quantity of the light source 20. A lookup table storing the light quantity data corresponding to the driving parameter of the light source 20 is used, the light quantity data stored in the lookup table is updated on the basis of a result of detection from the light detecting device 9, and the light source section 20 is controlled on the basis of the updated lookup table.
