<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for, controlling polarization orthogonalization in which the states of polarization directions of adjacent channels are detected, and the polarization directions of the adjacent channels are controlled so that the polarization directions are orthogonal to each other. <P>SOLUTION: A light signal multiplexed by an optical multiplexer 3 is split by an optical splitter 4, and only the light signal having a particular polarized state is extracted by a demultiplexer 5. A control section 6 is used to detect the intensity of a light signal output from the demultiplexer 5 for each channel, and based on the result of the detection, control polarization controllers 2a, 2b, 2c and 2d so as to satisfy the conditions under which the polarization directions of adjacent channels are orthogonal to each other. By a control of the control section 6, the polarization controllers 2a, 2b, 2c and 2d control a light signal for each channel before multiplexing so that polarization directions are orthogonal to each other, in between an odd-numbered channel and an even-numbered channel. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
