<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight unit enabling to visually confirm the relative positional relation between a point light source device and a light guide plate to suppress the positional deviation between the point light source device and the light guide plate, and to provide a liquid crystal display device. <P>SOLUTION: In the backlight unit, a light emission surface (side surface 2A) of each of point light source devices (LED chips 2) provided on a flexible board 3 is disposed oppositely to the light guide plate 4.
