<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a stereoscopic image that a photographer intends by generating a depth image on which the intention of the photographer during photography is reflected. <P>SOLUTION: The stereoscopic image generating device includes a first camera unit 16 which acquires a two-dimensional image 62 of a subject, a distance information acquiring means 78 of acquiring information on a distance to the subject, an image generating means 80 of generating the depth image 88 for outputting a stereoscopic image of the subject based upon at least the acquired distance information, a photography relative information acquiring means 82 of acquiring one or more pieces of photography relative information when the subject is picked up, and an image generating method determining means 84 of determining one depth image generating method out of a plurality of depth image generating methods for generating the depth image 88 based upon the acquired photography relative information.
