WAVELENGTH-VARIABLE CARBON NANOTUBE ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a small-sized device wherein its size is not larger than several mm and a pure tensile stress can be applied to a single carbon nanotube, with respect to a wavelength-variable carbon nanotube element.

SOLUTION: While opposing to each other via a gap 4 with at least one open end portion, a supporting member 1 comprising a pair of supporting elemental members 2 wherein such an isolated carbon nanotube 6 as to bridge the gap 4 is provided is supported on a surface along the extension and contraction directions of a piezoelectric element 10.
