PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a grid polarizer which is excellent in polarization separating performance and has a wide area with an efficient and convenient process. SOLUTION: The method of manufacturing grid polarizer comprises: a process of forming a rugged structure in which a plurality of ridge-like projection parts of height H extended in a narrow and long line shape are arranged substantially in parallel while being separated from each other at least on one side surface of a transparent substrate and overhangs are formed on both sides of an apex part of the ridge-like projection part toward groove directions formed between the ridge-like projection parts such as a rugged structure in which the width T of the opening part side of a groove formed between the ridge-like projection parts becomes larger than the width W of the depth part side and a rugged structure in which the width B<SB>1/2</SB>of a projection part at a height level of 1/2 of the height of the projection part is less than 0.95 times of the maximum width A of the apex side of the projection part; and a process of physically vapor depositing a light-adsorptive material onto the rugged structure.
