PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorine-containing polyether carboxylic acid diester having a polymerizable functional group in its molecule and obtained by reacting an alcohol directly with an acid dihalide and introducing different terminal groups with each other as the diester groups, and a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: This fluorine-containing polyether carboxylic acid diester expressed by R<SP>2</SP>OCOCF(CF<SB>3</SB>)[OCF<SB>2</SB>CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)]<SB>a</SB>O(CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>b</SB>O[CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)CF<SB>2</SB>O]<SB>c</SB>CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)COOR<SP>1</SP>[wherein, one of the R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>is a fluoroalkyl group capable of having an ether group, and another one is a polymerizable functional group; (a+c) is 0 or an integer of≤28; and (b) is an integer of≥2] is produced by reacting a perfluoropolyether dicarboxylic acid dihalide expressed by XOCCF(CF<SB>3</SB>)[OCF<SB>2</SB>CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)]<SB>a</SB>O(CF<SB>2</SB>)<SB>b</SB>O[CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)CF<SB>2</SB>O]<SB>c</SB>CF(CF<SB>3</SB>)COX with a hydroxy group-containing compound having a polymerizable functional group (R<SP>1</SP>OH) and a hydroxy group-containing compound having a fluoroalkyl group capable of having the ether group (R<SP>2</SP>OH).
