Disclosed is a solid polymer fuel cell comprising a solid polymer electrolyte membrane (1), a fuel electrode (2) arranged in contact with one side of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane (1), an oxygen electrode (3) arranged in contact with the other side of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane (1), and a gas-liquid separation membrane (4) internally containing an MEA (12) composed of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane (1), the fuel electrode (2) and the oxygen electrode (3). The gas-liquid separation membrane (4) allows a gas to permeate therethrough, but does not allow a liquid. The end faces of the gas-liquid separation membrane(4) are sealed, so that the MEA (12) is shielded from the outside of the gas-liquid separation membrane (4). The fuel electrode (2) and the oxygen electrode (3) respectively have an electrode terminal portion extending from an end, and the electrode terminal portions are exposed to the outside of the gas-liquid separation membrane (4) from an end portion of the gas-liquid separation membrane (4). By having such a structure, a vaporized fuel is supplied to the fuel electrode (2) through the gas-liquid separation membrane (4) facing the fuel electrode (2), while a reaction product from the fuel electrode (2) is discharged through the gas-liquid separation membrane (4) located on the lateral side of the fuel electrode (2); and at least oxygen is supplied to the oxygen electrode (3) through the gas-liquid separation membrane (4) facing the oxygen electrode (3). |
