The method involves ascertaining all influence factors of an abstraction level on a system (10), where equivalent category factors are indicated for all possible characteristics of the factor. Relevant influence factors are assigned for a higher or lower relevant another abstraction level. The steps of determining and assigning of influence factors over the abstraction levels are repeated such that the later level becomes the former level in each case. One of the abstraction levels has a test specification, where individual test cases are determined by combining the equivalent factors. An independent claim is also included for a tool for determining test cases for a software system.
