A moving picture on demand service method is provided to allow a user to directly store various types of moving pictures in an MPOD server and watch the moving pictures at desired time through a broadcasting output unit of a digital TV, and to separately manage moving picture on demand service according to viewers. A moving picture on demand service method includes: accessing an MPOD server via clients, registering as a service member, and receiving allotment of a viewer identification and password, and a set-top box identification; storing the set-top box identification in a set-top box; accessing and logging-in the MPOD server via the clients; selecting moving pictures to be downloaded; downloading the selected moving pictures in the MPOD server and storing the downloaded moving pictures according to viewers in the MPOD server; selecting a moving picture to be broadcasted among the moving pictures stored in the MPOD server; encoding and modulating the selected moving picture into a digital broadcasting stream, and transmitting it to the set-top box; and decoding and demodulating the transmitted digital broadcasting stream and broadcasting it through the broadcasting output unit in a real-time manner.
