<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus 100 designed such that an image reading section 10 can be steadily used in a horizontally installed position with an image forming section 20 placed in contact with a ground and the image reading section 10 can be conveyed steadily in a vertical position. <P>SOLUTION: The image reading section 10, which is a flat bed scanner, is rotatable to the image forming section 20, and reads a document by horizontally positioning the image reading section 10. A handle member 40 is slidably attached to the bottom of the image reading section 10. By vertically positioning the image reading section 10 and pulling the handle member 40 out, the image reader 10 can be suspended and supported by the handle 41. In synchronization with the pulling out of the handle member 40, the image reading section 10 is fixed to the image forming section 20.
