PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the erasure of digital information for assuring a free space of a necessary recording capacity be performed more in compliance with a user's expectation in a recording and reproducing device. SOLUTION: A control section 106 erases the digital information stored in a recording section 103 in the order of erasure priority based on the reproduction history indicating whether the digital information is already reproduced by each reproduction method of a plurality of kinds when the free space of the recording section 103 is not sufficient for recording of the digital information.
