PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method and an evaluating method of a magnetic recording medium, wherein the quality of a lubricant layer of the magnetic recording medium can be easily and correctly evaluated by using a magnetic head. SOLUTION: An inspection step of the magnetic recording medium (S104) includes a magnetic recording medium scanning process (S104-1) for performing scanning and the like of the formed magnetic recording medium by using the magnetic head, a sticking process (S104-2) for sticking a lubricant adhering to the magnetic head in the magnetic recording medium scanning process to a substrate for measurement, a measuring process (S104-3) for measuring an amount and distribution of the lubricant stuck to the substrate for measurement and a judging process (S104-4) for judging whether the obtained amount and distribution of the lubricant are proper or not.
