PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a perpendicular magnetic recording head device capable of improving external magnetic field durability by reducing an Edge Write magnetic field. SOLUTION: The perpendicular magnetic recording head device is provided with: a magnetic layer 24 having a main magnetic pole exposed at an opposite plane to a recording medium M; a return yoke layer 27 provided on the magnetic layer 24 through a non-magnetic layer; and coil layers 18, 23 for giving a recording magnetic field to the magnetic layer 24 and the return yoke layer 27. The return yoke layer 27 has a slit 27d extended from an end part in the width direction of track in plan view to at least the inside and a hole part 27e obstructing a stream of magnetic flux toward the medium opposite plane.
