<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus by which a photographer can obtain an image with a suitable his or her intended exposure state by making the number of compensation steps variable in accordance with the luminance distribution of a subject and precision of an exposure device in the imaging apparatus with an exposure compensation function. <P>SOLUTION: A compensation unit of exposure compensation is determined based on a parameter for determining exposure.
