The invention relates to a hydrogen-consuming system and a method for operating the same. In one embodiment of the invention, the system comprises a hydrogen-consuming unit (30) and a hydrogen storage system (10) in which hydrogen is stored in at least one first storage part (16) and a second storage part (18) by means of two different storage mechanisms, hydrogen being optionally removed from the first or second storage part (16, 18). In predefined operating phases, hydrogen is removed from the first or the second storage part (16, 18) in accordance with a thermal requirement of the hydrogen storage system (10) and/or the hydrogen-consuming unit (30).
