The rescue equipment, for people and valuables from high rise buildings, has a cable (1) wound around a drum (2) with a brake (3). A belt loop (11) is at one end of the cable and a further belt loop (12) is secured to the cable at a suitable point after the brake. As one rescued person/object reaches the ground, the other belt loop is raised to take the next person/object.
