A method for displaying an amount of communication in accordance with each user by using icons and a communication terminal using the method are provided to register icons whose shapes are changed according to an amount of communication with communication parties, and to update the icon shapes according to the amount of the communication to display the updated icons for a user, thus the user can intuitively recognize the amount of the communication. A display unit(240) displays plural communication party lists, and displays icons for communication parties whose icons are registered among communication parties of the lists. A central controller(250) determines levels of the icons according to an amount of communication transceived with user terminals of the communication parties and level formation information, and outputs image information of icons corresponding to the levels of the icons to the display unit. A communication unit(260) converts a signal transmitted from a wired/wireless communication network, and outputs the converted signal to the central controller. In addition, the communication unit converts a signal inputted from the central controller, and transmits the converted signal through the wired/wireless communication network.
