摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate shaft reduced in manufacturing cost by simple constitution and manufacturing method, in an energy absorbing type intermediate shaft of a vehicle steering device and its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: This intermediate shaft 10 is constituted of a tube yoke 11, a tube 12 and a shaft 21. The tube yoke 11, the tube 12 and the shaft 21 are serration-connected. In the shaft 21, a small cross-section area part 21a is formed. Each axial direction part A and B serration-connected is plastically deformed in a diameter direction, and the tube 12 and the shaft 21 are frictionally connected. Each axial direction part C and D is plastically deformed in the diameter direction, and the tube yoke 11 and the shaft 21 are frictionally connected. When axial direction impact force beyond friction connection force is applied, the shaft 21 is rushed into the tube yoke 11 against the friction connection force to absorb the impact force. When further larger axial direction impact force is applied, the small cross-section area part 21a of the shaft 21 is curved or broken to absorb the impact force. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
