PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high strength Cr-containing stainless steel sheet having excellent workability. SOLUTION: The high strength stainless steel sheet having excellent workability has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.001 to 0.03% C, 0.001 to 0.03% N, 0.05 to 0.5% Si, 0.05 to 5% Mn,≤0.05% P, 0.3 to 5% Ni, 0.01 to 3% Cu, 10 to 18% Cr and 0.005 to 0.50% Al, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and wherein, in the crystal orientation strength of the whole sheet thickness by X-ray diffraction, ä111} strength is≥3, ä211} strength is≥3; ä100} strength is <2; hole expansion ratio is≥100%; tensile strength is≥500 MPa; fracture elongation is≥15% and the average r value is≥0.9. Regarding the production method, a hot rolled steel sheet is heat-treated at 900 to 1,100°C, so as to form a martensitic structure, and thereafter, the steel sheet is cold-rolled, and is heat-treated at 700 to 900°C, so as to form a ferrite single phase structure or a ferrite+martensite structure.
