PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for pretreating coal of a coke oven by which tar in an excess exhaust gas produced from an air stream heating column and an exhaust gas produced in a coal mixer, an agglomerating machine and a high-temperature coal transporting line is removed to introduce the exhaust gas after removing the tar into a fluidized bed circulating gas line for reutilization as a circulating gas in a fluidized bed drying classifier without discharging the exhaust gas to the outside of the system and to provide an apparatus therefor. SOLUTION: The method for pretreating the coal of the coke oven is characterized by introducing the exhaust gas containing the tar component from an exhaust duct of an exhaust gas circulating line of the air stream heating column and the exhaust gas containing the tar component produced from a kneader, the agglomerating machine and a drying coal transporting machine into a tar removing furnace, burning, pyrolyzing and making harmless the tar components contained in the exhaust gases in the tar removing furnace and then introducing the harmless exhaust gases through the fluidized bed circulating gas line into a hot blast producer for the fluidized bed drying classifier.
