PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic ice machine and its deicing operation method realizing stable deicing operation. SOLUTION: The downflow type ice machine 30 is provided with an ice making part 22 with a pair of ice making plates 18, 18 arranged facing each other. The downflow type ice machine 30 is provided with an outside air temperature thermistor 40 measuring an outside temperature, and an ice making part thermistor 42 measuring a temperature of the ice making part 22. A pulse type solenoid valve 38 capable of adjusting a flow rate of hot gas is interposed in a hot gas pipe 26 carrying hot gas supplied from a compressor 12. The downflow type ice machine 30 is provided with a control means 44 for controlling the pulse type solenoid valve 38 on the basis of a first measured value of the outside air temperature thermistor 40 to adjust a supply amount of the hot gas at starting of the deicing operation, and adjusting the supply amount of the hot gas in response to a second measured value in the ice making part thermistor 42 during the deicing operation.
