<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately detect a face portion of a person from a normally photographed image and to photograph a high-quality person's image. <P>SOLUTION: A digital camera 10 includes a face detection function which detects a portion that is estimated as a person's face from an image, calculates a score that is obtained by digitizing face-likeness of the detected portion, determines a portion of which the score exceeds a score threshold as a face portion and detects the person's face portion from a photographed image, wherein when detecting the person's face portion from the normally photographed image, a score threshold is set to an area where a person's face has been detected just before normal photographing, the score threshold being lower than that of a region where no person's face has been detected.
