PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract cricula cocoon pigment, and develop a method for utilizing it to be provided. SOLUTION: This invention relates to a yellow pigment extracted from cricula cocoons, and a yellow dye, an artificial color, a UV-screening agent and an antioxidant each utilizing the pigment as an effective component. The effective component lutein, which is abundantly contained in the cricula cocoon, is a kind of carotenoid pigment existing in the cornea of eyes or the like, and is said to have effects on cataract, a factor of eye diseases. For example, it can be used as a dietary supplement. The cricula cocoon pigment never causes adverse effects such as allergy, which is a feature not available in a chemical dyestuff.
