PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that not only fuel supply quantity is doubled but number of connection parts of ignition devices per one cylinder and number of control means relating to the injection devices are also need to be doubled, and that possibility of occurrence of failures and wrong operation is increased accordingly in addition to cost of injection devices. SOLUTION: The indirect injection internal combustion engine capable of operating with following a combustion gas scavenging mode or a normal mode includes an intake means 14 for combustion gas scavenging and an intake means 16 for fuel injection. A fuel injection means 26 includes a fuel injection device 26 including two nozzles 28, 30. The two nozzles can supply fuel to the intake means 16 for fuel injection through only one nozzle 30 when the internal combustion engine operates in the combustion gas scavenging mode, and can supply fuel to the intake means 16 through one nozzle 30 of the two and to another intake means 14 through another nozzle 18 respectively when the internal combustion engine operates in the normal mode.
