METHOD FOR VERTICAL HANDOVER IN HETEROGENEOUS WIRELESS INTERNET SERVICE NETWORK

A method for vertical handover in a heterogeneous wireless internet service network is provided to enable an IPv6 access service irrespective of an IP mobility function service of conventional IPv4 equipment in the wireless Internet where an IPv6 is not available. A method for vertical handover in a heterogeneous wireless internet service network includes the steps of: transmitting a first router announcement message including an IPv6 prefix for one wireless network by a gateway(18) when a wireless terminal(11) within a wireless network area requests an IPv6 over IPv4 service by accessing using an IPv4 address allocated through a corresponding network interface; and recovering an IPv6 over IPv4/mobile IPv6 tunneled packet transmitted the wireless terminal being allocated the IPv6 address through the IPv6 prefix and transmitting the recovered packet to the IPv6 Internet by the gateway.
