PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device capable of executing idling stop by simple control. SOLUTION: This engine control device includes: an engine stop signal transmission means transmitting, to the following vehicle, an engine stop signal showing that the engine of one's own vehicle is being stopped; an engine stop signal reception means receiving the engine stop signal transmitted from the preceding vehicle; an engine stop means stopping the engine when the engine stop signal is received by the engine stop signal reception means; and an engine start means starting the engine when the engine stop signal becomes unreceivable by the engine stop signal reception means while the engine is being stopped by the engine stop means.
