A method for providing electronic map-based location information is provided to allow a user to provide his/her registered electronic map location information only to a person the user selects, without leaking his personal information. A user is connected to a location information service based on an electronic map(301) and undergoes a user authentication procedure(302). The user searches his current location on the electronic map or a location to be visited in the future(303). Electronic map coordinate information corresponding to the name of a place or a firm name is set as an electronic map location of the user(306). The user sets a valid time of the set electronic map location information(307). The user determines whether to transfer his location information actively or whether to register his location information passively(308). When the user selects a friend from a friend list(309), a location information providing server transmits the location information of the user to the friend immediately or at a pre-set time(310).
