A rubber composition for a tire is provided to improve the dispersion of layered silicate, therein enhancing abrasion resistance, tear resistance and air permeation resistance. A rubber composition for a tire comprises a rubber material which contains a polymer having a reactive functional group(a); and a reactive layered silicate where a reactive material having a reactive functional group(b) capable of reacting with the rubber material and the polymer of the rubber material is intercalated. The polymer having a reactive functional group(a) is a polymer having at least one reactive functional group selected from a halogenated aryl group, a halogenated alkyl group, a hydroxyl group, a halogenated benzyl group, an amine group, an epoxy group, a carboxyl group, a phenol group, a maleic acid group and a maleic anhydride group, or at least one rubber selected from hydrin rubber, vinyl benzyl chloride-styrene-butadiene rubber, chlorobutyl rubber, bromobutyl rubber, bromomethylstyrene-butyl rubber, maleic acid-styrene-butadiene rubber, carboxylic acid-styrene-butadiene rubber, epoxy isoprene rubber, maleic acid modified natural rubber, maleic acid-ethylene-propylene rubber and carboxylic acid-nitrile-butadiene rubber. The reactive functional group(b) is at least one selected from a halogenated aryl group, a halogenated alkyl group, a 1,3-propane sultone group, a hydroxyl group, a halogenated benzyl group, a silane coupling agent, an amine group, a tertiary phosphorus group, an epoxy group, a carboxyl group, a phenol group, a maleic acid group and a maleic anhydride group.
