CATALYST FOR LOWERING AMOUNT OF NITROGEN OXIDE IN EXHAUST GAS FROM LEAN BURN ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst having improved thermal stability, a wider temperature window and a higher conversion rate of nitrogen oxides.

SOLUTION: The catalyst for lowering the amount of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas from a lean burn engine comprises at least one noble metal of the platinum group and at least one nitrogen oxide storage material combined with a homogeneous Mg/Al mixed oxide of magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide. The magnesium oxide is present in a concentration of about 1 to about 40 wt.% based on the total weight of the Mg/Al mixed oxide.
