PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize costs and performance by improving efficiency of data transfer between a host operating system and a disk drive controller. SOLUTION: In a hard disk drive, the host operating system (OS) 103 can function as a task under control of a disk drive operating system (RTOS) 102. The host OS 103 and the disk drive operating system 102 can be executed on a single processor 101. The processor 101 can control a real-time response characteristic of the disk drive controller.
