A method for inputting a character and an electronic device remote controller using the same are provided to input the character corresponding to a previously inputted function key when a numeric key is pressed, as the function keys are arranged in the order corresponding to the order of the characters assigned to the numeric keys. An input unit(100) includes input keys in which one default character and at least one additional character are assigned, and at least one function key(102) in the order corresponding to the order assigning the additional character to the input key. An input key combining module(110) points the additional character corresponding to the function key when the function key is pressed before the input key, and points the default key of the input key when the function key is not pressed before the input key. A signal transmitter(120) converts the pointed additional and default characters into a predetermined signal, and transmits the signal to an electronic device. The input key is a numeric key and the default character is a number of the numeric key. The additional character is at least one of alphabets, Hangul, and specification characters assigned to the numeric key.
