APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING POLARIZING FILM

A method and an apparatus for manufacturing a polarizing film are provided to manufacture two kinds of polarizing films from one polarizing film having the same width as that of an existing polarizing film by arranging two pair of slitters on a slitting unit. A polarizing film supply unit(10) supplies a long polarizing film. A slitting unit slits the polarizing film in a longitudinal direction. A cutting unit(70) cuts the slit polarizing film in a desired size. A feeding unit(50) is arranged between the slitting and cutting units and transfers the polarizing film to the cutting unit. An inspection unit(60) is arranged between the feeding unit and the cutting unit and inspects the polarizing film, which is slit in the longitudinal direction. A controller determines a defect of the polarizing film based on the inspected result. When the polarizing film is defective, the controller controls the feeding unit, so that a portion of the polarizing film to be cut is fed to the cutting unit.
